Environmental Commitment | Forest Stewardship Council Environmental CommitmentMollet Printing has made a commitment to preserve our heritage by conducting business in an environmentally, socially, and economically responsible way. Reinforcing its commitment to the environment, Mollet Printing has earned "chain-of-custody" certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international non-profit organization devoted to encouraging responsible management of the world’s forests. Yet, this is only the beginning of our efforts towards sustainability and managing our relationship between industry and the environment. Our company-wide commitment to environmental responsibility extends through our day-to-day sustainable business practices and the steps we've taken to be good stewards. What is sustainability?Sustainability has now become the world's number one issue to be pursued for achieving a concrete and long lasting development. It is a process, which tells of a development, which commands all aspects of human life affecting sustenance. In 1987, the World Commission on Environment and Development composed a definition of sustainability: “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” At Mollet Printing we're committed to the simultaneous pursuit of economic prosperity and environmental quality through innovative business practices that minimize our impact on the environment. We are committed to sustainability. Here are the steps we've taken in our day-to-day business practices to be environmentally responsible stewards. ConsumablesPlate Technology - Mollet Printing has removed all of the film imaging devices eliminating our film and chemical processing requirements. Outdated film is disassembled, the Mylar is incorporated in the plastic recycling program, and film is processed for silver recovery. Today, over 99% of our projects utilize the industries most advanced, filmless workflow. Fountain Solution - We are one of the first printers in our industry to be completely "alcohol-free" with the installation of our in-house reverse osmosis water treatment system. Inks - Mollet inventories inks that contain limited ozone-damaging petroleum distillates and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).The majority of our inks are vegetable based. The suitability of such inks for a particular print project is affected by the technical requirements of the job and the client’s objectives. By communicating expectations and objectives, concerned customers can be assisted in making the best choice. PaperEnvironmentally Friendly Paper – We use both FSC certified paper and recycled paper in our print jobs. At this time, approximately 40% of jobs printed at Mollet use paper containing a minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled content. We are working hard to increase our clients’ use of papers that are recycled or from responsibly harvested sources. Our goal for the future is to say that 100% of the papers we use come from environmentally sound sources. Emissions and Resource ConsumptionEnergy – Our production plant is computer controlled for heat and air-conditioning to ensure energy efficiency. Our office facility has parabolic reflectors in the fluorescent lighting units to reduce the number of fluorescent bulbs required for adequate lighting. Press Rags – We use the new Kimberly-Clark WypAll paper towels in the press room for press wash up. These towels have been specifically designed for reduced environmental impact. Office Initiatives – We use recycled printer/copier paper. Recycling ProgramsInks - unused ink is re-mixed and re-used. Paper & Paper Products - Mollet collects and recycles all suitable paper waste in the production cycle, including pre-production trimmings from paper cutters, and post-production waste (including corrugated board) from printing and binding operations. Paper products from the office are similarly collected and integrated into the recycling stream. In addition, we use 100% post-consumer recycled and/or FSC certified papers for the majority our own printing and advertising. Wood - All wood pallets and crating off-cuts are shipped to the supplier for recycling. Plastics - Mollet collects all hard and soft plastic containers for recycling by outside sources. Metals - Items such as steel strapping, printing plates and other metals are segregated for outside sources to recycle. Where do we go from here? The demand for producing environmentally friendly print materials continues to increase at a rapid pace. Mollet Printing is leading the industry in environmentally sound printing through the promotion of innovative business practices that minimize the impact on the environment. Yet there is still much work to do. We look to our employees, customers, and suppliers for their cooperation and commitment to achieve our long term environmental goals.
