Forest Stewardship Council

Mollet Printing is pleased to announce their FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) chain-of-custody certification. Mollet Printing customers may now choose to use FSC-certified paper and the FSC-trademarked “checkmark and tree” logo in their magazines, catalogs and other printed materials. The FSC logo lets their consumers know the paper was made using wood from a healthy, well-managed forest.

FSC certification ensures responsible use of forest resources.

FSC is recognized as the most rigorous and complete forest certification process in the world. In order to qualify for this certification, Mollet Printing has undergone a thorough review and audit of their processes and standards by the SmartWood independent auditing firm. This chain-of-custody certification provides a guarantee about the production of FSC-certified products.

"Sustainability is an important issue in our world these days" says Dave Mollet, President of Mollet Printing. "The US is the largest market for paper products in the world, producing 90 million tons of paper annually and, in-turn, consuming about 100 million tons. As part of an industry contributing to the production of paper products I feel we have a responsibility to know the origins of the paper we use and that it's produced in an environmentally responsible manner. And because our customers are increasingly demanding products that are environmentally responsible, sustainability is not only good for the environment, it is good for business. That is why we are making every effort possible to reduce our environmental footprint.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is FSC?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, non-profit organization founded in 1993 to support standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. The goal is to improve forest conservation and reduce deforestation. Through chain-of-custody review, the source of a wood product is verified and tracked through productions into its final state. These products are labeled with a FSC logo, guaranteeing the consumer that the product they receive is credible and comes from a well-managed forest. Who supports FSC?

Trusted environmental organizations including Greenpeace, National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, and World Wildlife Fund all support and encourage FSC certification. Consumers wishing to support healthy forests and communities should look and ask for the FSC label when purchasing wood or paper products.

FSC-US, based in Washington, DC, is the U.S. “chapter” of FSC International, based in Bonn Germany. For more information about FSC at the International level, please visit www.fsc.org.

How is FSC funded?

FSC is funded through the support of charitable foundations, government donors, membership subscriptions and accreditation fees.

What is forest certification?

Forest certification is the process of evaluating forests or woodlands to determine if they are being managed according to an agreed set of standards.

What is chain of custody certification?

Chain of custody certification provides a guarantee about the production of FSC-certified products. Chain of custody is the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.

From a customer perspective, the FSC label represents a promise that is being made to them. Chain of custody standards are the mechanism FSC has to ensure that 'promise' is delivered.

What is done differently with an FSC order?

All of our FSC orders begin with FSC certified paper. We verify the FSC certification number on all papers we receive including percent FSC content and FSC product description. FSC products are stored separately in a designated area and a log of the paper and quantity is kept by previously identified responsible individuals.

During production, procedures have been established for identifying certified print runs. All printing of certified products is done in individual print runs with accompanying FSC specific job tickets following the order from beginning to end.

After a certified order is finished in production, the shipping boxes will be labeled as FSC certified and the Mollet FSC certification number will be included. Procedures have been established for recording quantities of finished certified products using a separate database from other non-certified orders. Invoices for each FSC certified order includes a description of the product, including certified status and the Mollet Printing certification number. The delivery ticket or packing slip will include the order number and the Mollet Printing certification number. Previously identified shipping personnel insure certified products are stored together awaiting shipment and that correct paperwork accompanies certified orders.

All records covering certified product information, certified paper purchase orders, certified production, and certified product shipping/sales will be kept for a period of five years.
